Social and political views generally hold a deep rooted conception that men can’t be forced into sexual intercourse. Rape need not be defined as the victim being penetrated, but by being forced to penetrate. In the following excerpt, from season 5 episode 4 from the British sitcom Peep Show, the writers and actors turned the idea of rape inside out.

In Canada the criminal code does not use the word “rape”. What the code does recognise is sexual contact with another person…without that other person’s consent. Note the gender bias in the Canadian Criminal Code.

A person commits an assault when:

(a) without the consent of another person, he applies force intentionally to that other person, directly or indirectly;

(b) he attempts or threatens, by an act or a gesture, to apply force to another person, if he has, or causes that other person to believe on reasonable grounds that he has, present ability to effect his purpose; or

(c) while openly wearing or carrying a weapon or an imitation thereof, he accosts or impedes another person or begs.
